    Crime Watch Update:

Illegal Dumping continues in West Dallas but when reported quick action can be taken. Recently, large pieces of furniture have been dumped along Canada Dr. and in parts of residential communities in West Dallas. This dumping was reported to the proper authorities and they have acted to remove the unwanted debris.

Please report suspicious activity to Marshal Joseph Polino, City of Dallas Marshal's office at (214) 670-4383 or email the Marshal at jpolino@mail.ci.dallas.tx.us. You may contact Mr. Zachary Guthrie, District Manager, Southwest Division of the City of Dallas Sanitation Department at (214) 670-1910. Mr. Guthrie's email address is zguthri@mail.ci.dallas.tx.us.

    Environmental Update:

The following email statement was received by Mr. Carlos Sanchez, Remedial Project Manager, Region 6, Superfund Division, (6SF-A) concerning the RSR Lead Smelter situation in West Dallas. Mr. Sanchez said,

"The recent agreement between the Justice Department and the RSR Corporation will provide for the RSR Corporation to clean up most of Operational Unit #5, known as OU No. 5, (process area) and all Operational Unit, known as OU No. 3 (former landfills). It will also provide funds for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to conduct the cleanup of the remaining portion of OU No. 5. Operational units 3 & 5 are the last remaining work to complete the cleanup of the RSR Lead Smelter site. If the agreement is approved by the court, after the public comment period, we should be able to complete all work before the end of next year. So this is great news for EPA and the West Dallas Community. We are hoping that these areas can be re-developed and put back into productive use which will create new jobs for the community."

For more information about the RSR Lead Smelter situation you may contact Mr. Sanchez at (214) 665-8507 or at sanchez.carlos@epa.gov.
