Environmental Update:
The following email statement was received by Mr. Carlos Sanchez, Remedial Project Manager,
Region 6, Superfund Division, (6SF-A) concerning the RSR Lead Smelter situation in
West Dallas. Mr. Sanchez said,
"The recent agreement between the Justice Department and the RSR Corporation will
provide for the RSR Corporation to clean up most of Operational Unit #5, known as
OU No. 5, (process area) and all Operational Unit, known as OU No. 3 (former landfills).
It will also provide funds for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to conduct
the cleanup of the remaining portion of OU No. 5. Operational units 3 & 5 are the
last remaining work to complete the cleanup of the RSR Lead Smelter site. If the
agreement is approved by the court, after the public comment period, we should be
able to complete all work before the end of next year. So this is great news for
EPA and the West Dallas Community. We are hoping that these areas can be re-developed
and put back into productive use which will create new jobs for the community."
For more information about the RSR Lead Smelter situation you may contact Mr. Sanchez
at (214) 665-8507 or at sanchez.carlos@epa.gov.
