SUBJECT: Ted Benavides, guest speaker of the West Dallas Chamber of Commerce
Ted Benavides, City Manager of the City of Dallas, spoke to the West Dallas
Chamber of Commerce on May 13, 2003 at Goodwill Industries. Mr. Benavides
updated the membership about the City Bond election, announced the City of
Dallas is interested in doing more business with Dallas area businesses,
and gave new information concerning the new Animal Shelter to be built in
West Dallas. Mr. Benavides toured the Goodwill Industries facility after
he spoke to the Chamber.
Mr. Benavides commented on the recent bond election and indicated he was pleased that
all measures passed. Soon the City will be deciding which bonds to sell and which
projects will be first to be completed. He suggested the Chamber work with City
Council representatives to help decide which projects to pursue. This bond election
will provide needed improvements to a City needing 6.4 Billion dollars in funds.
He informed the Chamber about the "Super Vendor Fair" to be held on November 7, 2003.
This fair is still being formulated but the idea is to allow businesses of all sizes
to approach City departments and offer their services directly to City officials.
It will enable all businesses that want to work with the City to be sent bid information
from the City.
The new Animal Shelter to be built in West Dallas at the corner of Westmoreland and I
30 will be a state of the art facility. It will create a better environment for the
animals living at the facility and give patrons a pleasant environment to choose
animals to adopt. Mr. Benavides said it is the goal of the City of Dallas to be a
"no kill" City with regard to animals that reside in the facility.
