WHO
The Lakewest Family YMCA, located in West Dallas, continues to be a great story that illustrates the power and productivity of collaborative efforts, and how generous contributions can help make a difference in solving a community's urgent needs.
WHAT
Friday night kicks off the Grand Opening of Café West with a formal dining atmosphere.
A grand piano, with volunteer pianist, Steven A. Taylor, and formally dressed teen waiters
will enhance the ambience of opening night. Our young diverse diners will tickle their taste buds with a meal carefully prepared by guest Chef Patrick Dukes and staff.
In collaboration with the North Texas Food Bank, Kids' Café is a unique program that focuses its efforts to address critical issues of childhood hunger. Lakewest was one of only two sites selected this year. Currently, the Food Bank operates 22 Kids Cafe sites with generous funding from Capital One and the Crystal Charity Ball.
The Kid's Café named "Café West" will provide a healthy dining experience three evenings a week to any youth 18 and under. Teen and youth clubs will serve as hospitality staff under the guidance of an advisor. Two times a month the Café will offer themed dining events including a Luau, a Wedding Reception, a Jazz Café and Dinner Theatre to name a few.

WHY
Unfortunately, the number of youth in our service area who, on a regular basis, do not
have the opportunity or ability to have a hot nutritious meal for dinner is astounding.
For this reason the Lakewest Family YMCA is honored to be one of the newest
"Kid's Café" sites.
The Kids Cafe sites provide a nutritious evening meal to children enrolled in after school programs established by Food Bank member agencies. Over 5,950 meals a week are served to 1,700 children in Dallas and Denton counties. The Kids Cafe program ensures children in the Food Bank service area don't go to bed hungry.
The Lakewest YMCA has a strong commitment to West Dallas. It is a model project that is writing a new chapter in the history of efforts to improve the quality of life for residents. Café West is a realized vision in offering a complete continuum of services for every age group from infant to young adult.
